About

We ran out of good ones.

The Unlock Box is two people in the Texas Hill Country who have played most of the mystery boxes you can buy, loved a lot of them, and kept a list of what we would do differently. Eventually the list got long enough that we built one.

The first case, Last Crush, was designed, written, illustrated and playtested at our own kitchen table in a single weekend in August 2026. It took us a little over an hour to solve and we caught five mistakes doing it, which is why playtesting is a rule and not a suggestion around here. Every case that follows gets the same treatment before anyone else sees it.

The things we care about: the solution follows from the evidence, every key is in the box, the reading earns its keep, and the person who did it is someone you liked.

We are a small operation and we answer our own email. hello@theunlockbox.com

The Unlock Box mark: an engraved gold box with a padlock

Our mark. A locked box, engraved in gold. Every case ships under it.

What a digital mystery box is

Everything a physical box holds, delivered as a web page you open in a browser and, if you want it, a set of PDFs you print and seal yourself. No app, no account, no shipping.

Original, every time

Our cases are original fiction. The towns are sometimes real. The people, vineyards and sheriffs are not.

Made with help

We write the cases and build the puzzles. We use AI tools for the period photographs and illustrations, and we check every ruler, clock and banner they draw by hand, because they get those wrong.
